New Mazda3 vs. Competitors for Sale in West Springfield, MA
There’s something magnetic about hatchbacks. With their blend of cargo-carrying versatility and small-car drive quality, they work perfectly for drivers who enjoy something zippy that can still accommodate some cargo. The 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback is a fine example of why people love this type of vehicle – but it still has to compete with the likes of the Honda Civic Hatchback, Toyota Corolla Hatchback, Hyundai Elantra GT, and Subaru Impreza 5-Door. As we’ll show you below, the 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback holds its ground over its competitors in more ways than one.
Since modern safety technologies have been found to reduce the number of serious on-road collisions, most buyers will want their vehicle to be outfitted with the latest and greatest technology. Even with the base 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback, you’ll get a suite of these driver-assist features, such as lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Although the base Civic and Corolla are provided with a similar slate of active safety features as well, the base Impreza 5-Door’s safety technology package is optional rather than standard. In the Elantra GT’s case, an active safety package is not even available on the base trim, and it’s optional on the top trim through an expensive ($3,850) package.
Power and Efficiency
The 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque and is the most powerful of all of the cars compared here. The base engines of the Civic Hatchback (174 hp and 162 lb.-ft. of torque), Corolla Hatchback (168 hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque), Elantra GT (161 hp and 150 lb.-ft. of torque), and Impreza Hatchback (152 hp and 145 lb.-ft. of torque) just don’t match the 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback’s output. Its 2.5-liter engine also uses a technology called Cylinder Deactivation, which shuts down half its cylinders at cruising speed to maximize fuel efficiency. The aforementioned rival models lack this fuel-saving function.
Especially compared to the models listed here, the 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback is attractive and accommodating, with some excellent standard features. Its base trim gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel and simulated-leather-trimmed sport seats. While a leather-enrobed steering wheel is standard on the base Corolla Hatchback, it’s not with the other rivals.
The infotainment system in the base 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback has an uncommonly large 8.8-inch central touchscreen, while the others’ base screens are smaller. Those other models’ base trims (except for the Corolla Hatchback) don’t provide standard push-button ignition, but the base 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback does. And music fans will like to know that the 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback’s top trim, the Premium, comes with a 12-speaker Bose audio system. Most of the rivals’ audio systems top out at eight speakers (the Honda Civic Hatchback’s top trim also gets a 12-speaker premium stereo, but it’s not a Bose).
