CX-90 PHEV

As a plug-in hybrid, the 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV checks many crucial boxes. It’s a three-row crossover with midsized room and versatility. At the same time, up to 27 miles of all-electric range reduces the number of required gas station visits, while an integrated hybrid powertrain enables up to 500 miles of highway driving on a single tank and full charge. In short, this vehicle is ideal for everyday driving and long-distance adventures. The automaker takes an upscale approach to its 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV, equipping every trim with luxury features such as a power moonroof, leather upholstery, and a suite of advanced safety technologies. Please look for our coverage of the conventional (gas-only) Mazda CX-90 as well.

Trims and Powertrain

There are three versions of the 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV: Preferred, Premium Sport, and Premium Plus. All of them are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and 68-kW electric motor working with a 17.8-kWh high-capacity lithium-ion battery. The combined output is 319 total horsepower (323 horsepower with premium gasoline). The standard all-wheel-drive system is managed with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Using a Level 2/240-volt charger, the battery can be charged in about 90 minutes. The CX-90 PHEV offers up to 27 miles of all-electric driving, with EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 26 mpg.

With all three rows in use, the 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV provides 14.9 cubic feet of storage. Folding the third row flat will expand the space to 40.0 cubic feet, while dropping both rear rows opens up 74.2 cubic feet of room. Cargo capacity can vary slightly based on seating configuration. This vehicle, properly equipped, can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

Standard Features

The well-appointed Preferred can hardly be considered a base edition thanks to its power moonroof, leather upholstery (first- and second-row outboard positions), heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way power controls, heated second-row seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, power liftgate, wireless device charging, heated steering wheel, and driver’s memory system. Its other standard equipment includes automatic LED headlights, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, heated power side mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 12.3-inch driver information display, rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers, roof rails, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, rear privacy glass, second-row sunshades, six USB ports (two per row), and 21-inch wheels.

The Premium Sport adds a panoramic moonroof, a hands-free liftgate, heated second-row seats, power-folding side mirrors with auto-dimming on the driver's side, special exterior accents, a 150-watt accessory outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and upgraded cabin lighting. Mazda gives the Premium Plus more luxury touches, such as Nappa leather upholstery (first- and second-row outboard positions), a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a driver personalization system, adaptive headlights, a windshield wiper de-icer, side mirrors with reverse tilt-in, and trim-specific exterior treatments. The Premium Sport and Premium Plus are available with second-row captain's chairs and a three-person third row, maintaining the CX-90 PHEV's seven-passenger capacity.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Features

All trims receive an array of airbags plus anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, hill launch assist, and a backup monitor. The Premium Sport and Premium Plus add emergency lane-keeping with blind-spot assist, road-keeping assist, head-on traffic avoidance assist, upgraded adaptive cruise control with cruising and traffic support, and low-speed automatic forward braking. The standard components are Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, Alexa Built-in, and access to Mazda Connected Services. The Premium Sport and Premium Plus get an upgraded system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with touchscreen capabilities, as well as navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Preferred has an eight-speaker audio system, while the Premium Sport and Premium Plus rise to a Bose unit with twelve speakers.
