Trims, Powertrains, and Performance

The 2025 Mazda CX-90 is a midsized three-row crossover offered in six trims: Select, Preferred, Premium Sport, Premium Plus, S Premium, and S Premium Plus. A turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine is standard, augmented by an 11-kW mild-hybrid system. This powertrain’s output varies across the trims, with most making 280 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. The S Premium and S Premium Plus are tuned to produce up to 340 hp and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. This robust powerplant is fixed to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sets in motion the standard all-wheel drivetrain.

Another dimension of the 2025 Mazda CX-90’s capability is towing, with the Select and Preferred boasting a 3,500-pound maximum while the remaining trims are rated for up to 5,000 pounds. Fuel economy is favorable as well, with the Select, Preferred, Premium Sport, and Premium Plus all achieving an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The S Premium and S Premium Plus perform similarly, dropping by only a single mpg on the open road.

Noteworthy Features

The eight-passenger Select kicks things off with leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40-split second- and third-row seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a 7-inch LCD gauge cluster, four USB-A data ports (two in both the first and second rows), an overhead console sunglasses holder, and an underfloor storage compartment in the cargo area. This base trim also gets a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, roof rails, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, rear privacy glass, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Preferred is sweetened with first- and second-row (outboard) leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power passenger’s seat, wireless phone charging, a moonroof, six USB-C ports (two in each row), and manual second-row sunshades. The inaugural Premium Sport receives a panoramic moonroof, a hands-free liftgate, a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital LCD gauge cluster, position memory for the driver’s seat, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, black exterior accents, and black 21-inch wheels.

The Premium Plus loses the sunglasses holder and cargo-area underfloor storage compartment. and swaps the second-row bench seat for heated second-row captain’s chairs that reduce seating to seven. The other hallmarks of this trim are a heated steering wheel, first- and second-row (outboard) Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 150-watt accessory power outlet, power-folding side mirrors with driver’s-side auto-dimming, and a windshield wiper de-icer.

The S Premium builds on the Premium Sport with some of the features from the Premium Plus (Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, and side mirrors with driver’s-side auto-dimming), along with Mazda’s Driver Personalization System (adjusts the CX-90’s settings according to unique driver preferences), heated second-row bench seats, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, power-folding side mirrors with reverse gear tilt-down, and adaptive front lighting. The S Premium Plus is a mix between the Premium Plus and S Premium, adding quilted Nappa leather, ventilated second-row captain’s chairs featuring a center console and two USB-C charging ports, a 50/50-split third-row seat (which drops seating to six), a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel, and synthetic-suede interior trim. For those keen on the aforementioned second-row captain’s chairs, they can be optioned in the Preferred, Premium Sport, and S Premium.
