The 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV makes a grand entrance as a two-row midsized crossover with a choice between two trim packages: Premium and Premium Plus. Both are powered by an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline-burning engine with a 68-kW electric motor, which combine for an output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. The mechanical big picture is completed by a seamless eight-speed automatic transmission (with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters) and a rear-biased all-wheel drivetrain.
Powering this setup is a 17.8-kWh battery that provides an electric range of 26 miles before calling on the combustion engine for conventional hybrid driving. Recharging takes approximately 6 hours and 40 minutes with a Level 1 (120V) charging outlet or just 1 hour and 30 minutes using a Level 2 (240V) system. In gas-burning (conventional hybrid) mode, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV achieves an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in combined city and highway driving. With a full gas tank and full hybrid battery charge, the vehicle will give you a total driving range of 490 miles (according to the EPA’s official fuel economy estimations).
The Premium is well appointed with a host of features aimed at comfortable and convenient driving. That list includes leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats with driver’s position memory, tri-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, a hands-free liftgate, and proximity keyless entry. Some of this base trim’s other noteworthy features are a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, push-button start, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel with paddle shifters, an overhead sunglasses holder, retractable rear sunshades, a 60/40-split folding second-row seatback, an underfloor storage compartment in the cargo area, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, an intermittent rear wiper, heated power-adjustable side mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators, black exterior accents, rear privacy glass, a rear roof spoiler, and roof rails. For tech, it gets wireless phone charging, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, four USB-C ports, a 12V power outlet, and the aforementioned i-Activesense safety technology bundle (see the next section for details).
The Premium Plus takes luxury to the next level with some added high-class amenities. Those upgrades include fine Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a windshield wiper de-icer, power-folding side mirrors with driver’s-side auto-dimming, and a 150-watt accessory power outlet.
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV is equipped with the automaker’s proprietary suite of advanced driving aids. Both trims have front cross-traffic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping (with road keep assist and head-on traffic avoidance assist), adaptive cruise control with traffic support and speed limit assist, front and rear parking sensors, driver attention alert, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. Also standard are a full array of airbags, a rearview camera, hill launch assist, and roll stability control.
Both 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV trims boast a cutting-edge 12.3-inch infotainment system that’s conveniently controlled by a dial located on the center console, as Mazda’s customer feedback indicated a preference for dials over touchscreens. This system’s components include navigation, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a premium Bose audio system with 12 speakers. A three-year trial to Mazda Connected Services is also included with both trim levels.
