The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is a five-passenger compact crossover made in eight trim selections: S, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium Plus, Carbon Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Signature. The S, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, and Premium Plus all receive a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 187 hp and 186 lb.-ft. of torque (185 lb.-ft. for the S Carbon Edition). Meanwhile, the Carbon Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Signature feature a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing up to 256 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD) complete the mechanical picture. The maximum towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.
According to the EPA’s official estimates, most non-turbo 2025 Mazda CX-5 models achieve 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The Carbon Edition, thanks to its cylinder deactivation function, returns a bit more at 26 mpg city/30 mpg highway. The turbo variants are rated to get 22 mpg city/27 mpg highway.
The S makes a strong first impression with remote keyless entry, cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rain-sensing windshield wipers, push-button ignition, an overhead console sunglasses holder, manually adjustable front seats, a 40/20/40-split one-touch folding and reclining rear seatback, dual front USB-C ports, a 4.6-inch multi-information display, power-adjustable side mirrors with LED turn-signal indicators, and automatic on/off LED headlights. The Select is upgraded with proximity keyless entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats with power adjustments for the driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear AC vents, dual rear USB-A charging ports, auto-leveling LED headlights, and rear privacy glass. The Preferred is enhanced with position memory for the driver’s seat, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a moonroof, and a power liftgate.
The Carbon Edition takes style up a notch with red leather upholstery, red interior contrast stitching, Polymetal Gray Metallic paint, and black exterior accents. Beyond that, it gets a wireless phone charger. The Premium Plus builds on the Preferred’s equipment with a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless phone charger, a 7-inch LCD meter display, a head-up display, transmission paddle shifters, an adaptive front lighting system, a windshield wiper de-icer, heated power-folding side mirrors, and LED daytime running lights and taillights.
The Carbon Turbo lacks the heated rear seats, windshield wiper de-icer, and power-folding side mirrors, but it gains Terracotta leather upholstery with faux suede inserts, larger exhaust ports, a black cloth headliner, and black exterior accents. The Turbo Premium brings back the red interior contrast stitching from the Carbon Edition and also gets the heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, power-folding side mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer from the Premium Plus. At the top of the range, the Turbo Signature features Caturra Brown Nappa leather upholstery, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and wood interior trim.
Every 2025 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with the i-Activsense safety suite, which bundles forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and rear seat alert. The Premium Plus adds a surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors, while the Turbo Premium introduces traffic jam assist. With the top-tier Turbo Signature, you’ll get reverse automatic braking, driver attention alert, and traffic sign recognition.
The S is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment system featuring Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a four-speaker sound system. The Select and Preferred upgrade to a six-speaker sound system, while the Carbon Edition welcomes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a Bose audio system with ten speakers. The Premium Plus and higher trims add SiriusXM satellite radio, while the Turbo Signature rounds out the ultimate perks list with integrated navigation.
