Six trims are available for the 2024 Mazda3 Hatchback: 2.5 S Select Sport, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, Carbon Turbo, and Premium Plus. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 191 hp and 186 lb.-ft. of torque is standard in most, but the Carbon Turbo and Premium Plus are buffed up with a turbocharged 2.5-liter powerplant that hammers out 250 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque (with premium fuel). Front-wheel drive is standard in the Select Sport, Preferred, and Premium, but the Carbon Edition, Carbon Turbo, and Premium Plus come with all-wheel drive. What’s more, a six-speed automatic transmission is found in every trim except the Premium, which instead uses the six-speed manual preferred by driving purists.
The 2024 Mazda3 Hatchback also boasts strong fuel economy, with the Select Sport and Preferred both returning an EPA-rated 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The Carbon Edition returns 26 city/33 highway, while the Premium achieves 26 city/36 highway. Look for the livelier Carbon Turbo and Premium Plus to have a slight trade-off for their performance with a dip to 23 city/31 highway.
The well-stocked Select Sport receives automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry. Inside, there’s push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows with one-touch auto-up/down, illuminated vanity mirrors, an overhead console sunglasses holder, synthetic-leather sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, two USB-C ports, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 60/40-split rear seatback. The Preferred adds a moonroof, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, and position memory for the side mirrors and driver’s seat.
The uniquely styled Carbon Edition shows off Polymetal Gray Metallic paint and gloss-black mirror caps, plus an interior with striking red leather seats and a wireless phone charge pad. The manual transmission-only Premium is eligible for the red leather seats but otherwise reverts to the regular appearance. This trim is also enhanced with special LED headlights and taillights, a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna, leather upholstery, and a head-up display.
The Carbon Turbo blends the novel look of the Carbon Edition with the refined quality and performance of the Premium. As mentioned, it gets the turbocharged powerplant and exclusive Zircon Sand Metallic paint, plus a black interior with terracotta simulated leather upholstery stitched in contrasting red. The Premium Plus is the 2024 Mazda3 Hatchback’s pinnacle, embracing a windshield wiper de-icer, black exterior elements (including a rear roof spoiler, front air dam, and front air guards), a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, perforated leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters.
The 2024 Mazda3 Hatchback is equipped with an array of technologically advanced driving aids. The Select Sport, Preferred, and Carbon Edition each receive forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention alert, and automatic high beams. The Premium and Carbon Turbo also get an adaptive front lighting system and traffic sign recognition, while the Premium Plus is enhanced with a surround-view camera, reverse automatic emergency braking, and traffic/cruising assist.
The infotainment system in the Select Sport and Preferred consists of a crystal-clear 8.8-inch touchscreen with voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a six-speaker audio unit. The Carbon Edition gets some additional features: wireless smartphone connect, HD radio, and another pair of speakers (total of eight). While the Premium reverts to plug-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it adds SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system with aluminum grilles. Wireless smartphone connect comes back in the Carbon Turbo and Premium Plus, and they also get a larger (10.25-inch) touchscreen.
