The 2023 Mazda CX-30 is an all-wheel drive subcompact crossover made in seven trims: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 Turbo Premium, and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. Most have the aforementioned 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (191 hp and 186 lb.-ft. of torque), but the 2.5 Turbo Premium and Premium Plus receive a gutsier turbocharged 2.5-liter producing 227 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque (or 250 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque with premium fuel). Both engines are affixed to a six-speed automatic transmission. We’ve already mentioned the base powertrain’s EPA-rated fuel economy rating of 26 city/33 highway; as for the turbo edition, it fulfills 22 city/30 highway.
The 2.5 S has LED exterior lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 12-volt power outlet, two USB ports, a 7-inch LCD meter display, and a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback. The 2.5 S Select gets side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, rear privacy glass, roof rails, proximity entry (Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry), dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rear AC vents, and a rear-seat center armrest with cupholders. The 2.5 S Preferred embraces reverse gear tilt-down side mirrors with position memory, a moonroof, illuminated vanity mirrors, an overhead console sunglasses holder, and heated front seats with driver’s-side power adjustments and memory.
The sleek 2.5 S Carbon Edition is unique among the pack with its exclusive Polymetal Gray Metallic paint, black exterior accents, heated side mirrors, and red leather interior. The 2.5 S Premium builds off the 2.5 S Preferred with signature LED headlights and taillights, a power liftgate, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and a head-up display. The 2.5 Turbo Premium is livened with the spunkier engine along with a windshield wiper de-icer, the same side mirrors found in the Carbon Edition, a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a heated steering wheel. At the top of the range, the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus helps out its driver with an auto-dimming driver-side mirror and a HomeLink universal garage door opener.
The 2023 Mazda CX-30 has a complete set of standard safety features, with more added to the higher-priced trims. The 2.5 S gets forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, driver attention warning, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added at the 2.5 S level, and the 2.5 S Premium and 2.5 Turbo Premium are also issued an adaptive front lighting system and traffic sign recognition. The top-tier 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus is stocked with all of the above plus reverse automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera, traffic jam assist, and front and rear parking sensors.
Most trims get the same multimedia setup: an 8.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, HD radio, voice recognition, and an eight-speaker sound system. Starting with the 2.5 S Premium, navigation is added, while the 2.5 Turbo Premium and Premium Plus are further sweetened with SiriusXM satellite radio and a deluxe 12-speaker Bose audio system.
