Trims, Performance, and Efficiency
The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact crossover made in four trims: 2.5 S, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Premium, and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. The 2.5 S is eligible for a a handful of packages, which are Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, and Premium. All non-turbo trims have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 186 hp and 186 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.5 Turbos instead get a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 227 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque with regular fuel and 250 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque with premium. Both powerplants pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and the aforementioned standard all-wheel drivetrain. According to EPA estimates, the non-turbo versions return 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, while the turbo models achieve 22 city/30 highway.
2.5 S
The 2.5 S is a value-oriented yet premier trim that comes with quite a few notable features, like LED exterior lighting elements, rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote keyless entry, push-button ignition, a 12-volt power outlet, two USB ports, a 7-inch LCD meter display, and a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback. It also has a quality infotainment system with an 8.8-inch touchscreen that includes voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker sound system with Mazda Harmonic Acoustics, and three years of complimentary Mazda Connected Services. The 2022 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S also gets a substantial slate of advanced safety features, such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, driver attention alert, and automatic high beams.
Four optional equipment packages are available for the 2.5 S: Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, and Premium. The Select Package has larger wheels, side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, roof rails, rear privacy glass, Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry (allows you to lock and unlock the vehicle when the key is within proximity), dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, simulated-leather upholstery, a rear center armrest with cupholders, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Preferred bundles reverse gear tilt-down side mirrors with position memory, a moonroof, illuminated vanity mirrors, an overhead console sunglasses holder, a power driver’s seat with memory, and heated front seats.
The Carbon Edition is visually distinct with its Polymetal Gray Metallic exterior paint, black heated side mirrors, and a red leather interior. The Premium Package is similar to the Preferred, but with a considerable upgrade in features. It gets signature LED headlights and taillights, a roof-mounted “shark fin” antenna, a power liftgate, transmission paddle shifters, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 12-speaker Bose audio system with Centerpoint 2 and AudioPilot, gloss-painted speaker grilles, navigation, a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, and an adaptive front lighting system.
2.5 Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Premium Plus
The 2.5 Turbo trims upgrade to the more potent namesake engine and add a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. The 2.5 Turbo Premium is issued the contents of the 2.5 S with the Premium Package, along with the beefier engine, black heated side mirrors, and frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. Not only that, but it also comes with a windshield wiper de-icer and a heated steering wheel. Finally, the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus gains an auto-dimming driver’s side exterior mirror, a HomeLink universal garage door opener, reverse automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, traffic jam assist, and front and rear parking sensors.
