Mechanical Features and Fuel Economy
Under the hood, all 2020 Mazda3 Sedans have a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine (186 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque), which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes by default, but all-wheel drive is available on the Select, Preferred, and Premium packages. The Base, Select, and Preferred packages with FWD are rated for an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, while the Premium with FWD sees a slight increase in fuel efficiency, achieving an EPA-rated 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. AWD models are rated a couple of mpg lower across the board.
Every version of the 2020 Mazda3 Sedan comes standard with great advanced safety features that competitors might only offer on their most expensive models. Even the base trim comes standard with smart brake support, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, Mazda radar cruise control with stop-and-go, driver attention alert, and a rearview camera. The Select package also adds a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, which makes highway merging and backing out of parking spaces safer. In addition to these driver-assist features, all 2020 Mazda3 Sedans come with an advanced airbag system consisting of dual front air bags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side-impact air curtains, and driver’s and front passenger’s knee air bags.
