Seasonal Tire Change and Winter Tire Sales in Massachusetts
No matter what it looks like outside of your window right now, you know that the weather can change in an instant in Massachusetts--and as the seasons change, so do your tire needs.
The hot, dry, or balmy weather of the summer months can take sport tires, all-season tires, or summer tires--but when the chill wind blows and rain turns to sleet, slush, and snow, it's time for winter tires. And whether you have your set ready and waiting in the garage or shed, or you need to step into a fresh new pair for the upcoming season, Balise Mazda's tire center has what you need.
Tire Change FAQ: Be an Expert!
"Do I need winter tires even I have 4WD or AWD?" Yes! Although the AWD system in your vehicle does provide additional grip and traction in less-than-ideal weather, there is no substitute for having the right tires. The rubber used in winter/snow tires is a different type of composite than that of summer/all-season tires--because of this, it thrives in bitterly cold temperatures, where other warmer-weather tires tend to freeze and become hard and brittle.
"What's the difference between studded tires and studless snow tires?" The only major difference between those two types of snow tires is the studs--studs are small metal spikes that are able to dig into snow, ice, and pavement to provide better traction than just about anything else out there. However, since studs can dig up concrete and blacktop, some states have laws regulating when studded tires can be worn.
"When do I need to get my snow tires on?" Tire change season tends to fall in the October - November range (when your winter tires need to be put on) and the March - May range (when your winter tires need to come off). While there's no hard-set limit for months or weeks, you should be thinking about it as soon as temperatures are consistently falling below 40F* (for winter or snow tires) or bumping up above 45F* (for summer or all-season tires).
"What size winter tire do I need?" Your tires have a string of numbers on the outside telling you what size will be the right fit for your vehicle--or, you can ask the experts at Balise Mazda.
